This page provides an overview of relevant calls where space assets could make a contribution. The calls, coming from within the space community as well as outside of it, are listed under different categories according to their sector of interest.

In line with Eurisy’s mission, the aim of this page is to inspire downstream space companies and professionals to tackle wider societal challenges. Eurisy has been working since long on the development of different thematic areas, stimulating the uptake of satellite applications to enhance efficiency, sustainability and quality of life in Europe and beyond. Following the topics currently under our radar, we provide an overview of relevant calls for the deployment of satellite-based innovation and solutions in a number of sectors.

The second Horizon Europe Call

The second Horizon Europe Call is now open with a deadline in March 2023 and an overall budget of 48.1 million EUR for the development of innovative space downstream applications.

Copernicus downstream applications and the European Data Economy

The call aims at bringing to market new or improved applications, products and services exploiting Copernicus data assets and services products. Projects are required to adopt state-of-the-art ICT technologies (such as, for example, Big Data and AI technologies in their wider declinations), and make use of existing European data infrastructures, such as Copernicus DIAS platforms, European open data portals, and industrial data platforms. The deadline to apply is the 2nd March 2023.

GOVSATCOM Service developments and demonstrations

The call is aimed at funding R&I for the consolidation of integrated use cases and demonstration of EU GOVSATCOM service interoperability in real user environment. the deadline to respond to the call is the 2nd March 2023.

EUSPA Space Academy

Advanced Master: Defense & Security in Space

This master’s programme, due to open in 2023 and supported by the European Space Agency, is open to a wide range of students, from young graduates to civilian and military managers. More details here.

People, Planet, Prosperity

This ESA Thematic Call, targets space projects enabling “action beyond observation” within the vast Environmental, Social, and corporate Governance (ESG) market where space technologies, specifically satellite telecommunications and 5G technologies, are key enablers.

  • The first batch lasted from 10 March 2022 to October 2022 
  • The second batch lasts from October 2022 to 28 February 2023

Space in Response to Humanitarian Crises

Given ongoing protracted humanitarian crises across the World, ESA has decided to extend the deadline for this ‘Announcement of Opportunities’ for an additional 6 months. All outline proposals must be submitted before the 28th of April 2023. More details here.

Join the EU Global Action on Space

The EU Global Action on Space gives access to a huge network of worldwide experts that will provide you with direct business support, for free. The pool of experts covers more than 40 countries to provide you with technical advice on the EU Space Programme components Galileo, Copernicus or EGNOS and on their services as well as counsel to internationalise your space company and raise its business profile.

Eurisy has raised awareness on cities success stories through communication campaigns and workshops, allowing local administrations and stakeholders to share their experiences, assess their needs and inform them of funding and support opportunities to use satellite-based services.

In this sense, the Blue Growth is extrinsically related to the potential of Europe’s seas and coasts to develop a blue sustainable economy. Blue Growth is defined as a long-term strategy that aims at supporting growth in the marine and maritime sectors.

The prize will be awarded to one or several best data-driven marine or maritime digital application(s) using Copernicus and/or Galileo data in combination with other data sources, to solve problems or meet customer needs related to the detection, monitoring and tracking of plastic pollution in rivers, lakes, shores and coastal zones and to support its removal in order to support the prevention of ocean pollution.

The objective of Space4Rural is to foster the use of satellite-based data and services to benefit rural areas. The socio-economic development of rural areas is essential to ensure both environmental sustainability and the well-being of urban areas. Satellite-based services can create economic opportunities in rural areas, helping us to better protect our environment. Satellite data can also support local authorities in rural areas to improve decision-making and land management.

GIS4Schools Logo Competition Winner Announced - Eurisy

Working with satellite data allows students, with multiple backgrounds and professional goals, to solve real-world issues. A textbook example is the GIS4Schools Project. It aims to support opportunities for all in acquiring and developing STEAM competences, address innovative practices in a digital era, and contribute to environmental and climate goals.
