About the Project

Did you know?   GPS, once designed for military navigation, now powers everyday tools like ride-sharing, food delivery, fitness tracking — and even modern farming.

Feeding a growing population, building resilient cities, monitoring climate change, and staying connected in emergencies are some of today’s biggest challenges. Satellites provide essential solutions:

Together, they form an invisible infrastructure that makes everyday life — and future innovation — possible.

Over the past decades, technological progress has made satellite-based services more powerful and more accessible than ever before. Yet, despite their potential, they remain underused by professionals and communities — not because they are unavailable, but because their benefits are often unknown.

Down to Earth was created to bridge this gap. Through this webinar series, we aim to raise awareness of the practical solutions that space-based technologies can offer to real-world challenges, targeting specific sectors and connecting potential users – professionals, organisations, and communities – with experienced users, service providers and experts. Our goal is to help our webinar participants discover how they can benefit from these innovations and bring them closer to everyday practice.

Format

Each session will take the format of a guided discussion between an interviewer and two guest speakers who will present real-life use cases of space-based solutions. After the presentations, an interactive Q&A session will give the participants a chance to engage directly with the speakers.

Who is it for?

This webinar series is designed for everyone curious about how space can improve life on Earth — from professors and researchers, to innovators and entrepreneurs, to companies, public authorities, NGOs, and independent professionals. Whether you work in urban planning, environment, mobility, energy, agriculture, or digital innovation, or whether you simply want to explore new ideas, this series is your invitation to discover how space can serve you — right here on Earth.

No prior knowledge of space is required — just an interest in practical solutions that make our societies more sustainable, resilient, and connected.

What themes will be covered?

Our webinar series will address themes where space applications bring the greatest value in addressing today’s challenges. From climate resilience and sustainable agriculture to urban planning, disaster management, maritime safety, and public health, each session will highlight concrete use cases showing how satellites already support smarter decisions, more sustainable practices, and more resilient societies.

These themes are selected not to showcase distant possibilities, but to make space accessible and relevant to new communities of users. By focusing on sectors where awareness of satellite solutions is still limited, the series aims to inspire engagement, spark collaboration, and demonstrate how space technologies can serve as practical tools for innovation and problem-solving — right here on Earth.
