Strengthening cross-border preparedness and secure operations through EU Space services
Crises increasingly cross national borders. Severe weather, maritime emergencies, communication failures, GNSS interference, disruptions to critical infrastructure and hybrid threats can challenge the ability of public authorities to coordinate and maintain essential operations.
The Regional workshop on Regional Resilience and Security will bring together public authorities and operational users from the Baltic Region to explore how EU Space Programme services can strengthen regional resilience and cross-border cooperation.
It will also be the first edition of the workshop.
From space services to operational resilience
The workshop will explore the practical use of Galileo, EGNOS, Copernicus, GOVSATCOM and EU Space Surveillance and Tracking (EU SST) for:
- disaster preparedness and emergency response;
- critical infrastructure protection;
- border and maritime security;
- secure communications and continuity of essential services;
- search and rescue; and
- GNSS interference and hybrid threats.
A central question will guide the discussions:
How can cross-border public authorities use EU Space Programme services collectively to anticipate risks, maintain situational awareness and continue operating during emergencies and security crises?
A common operational scenario
A cross-border scenario will run throughout the workshop, combining challenges such as severe weather, GNSS interference, communications disruption, drones and threats to critical infrastructure.
Through demonstrations and a practical exercise, participants will explore how EU Space services can support decision-making, coordination and operations across borders.
From awareness to action
The workshop will provide an opportunity to identify common user needs, capability gaps, barriers to uptake and training requirements, as well as opportunities for joint exercises and regional cooperation.
The aim is to support the integration of EU Space services into national procedures, contingency plans and cross-border exercises.
Building a regional community
The workshop will bring together civil protection, emergency management, defence, border and maritime authorities, crisis management centres, cybersecurity and critical infrastructure organisations, alongside European and national space stakeholders.
Following the user-centred approach promoted by Eurisy, the workshop will focus on practical applications, operational needs and concrete opportunities for cooperation.
