Eurisy Attended the New Space Economy Congress 2025 in Barcelona

Eurisy attended the New Space Economy Congress 2025, held in Barcelona, Spain, from 3 to 4 July 2025. The event gathered over 40 international speakers and featured a rich programme focused on how innovation — including the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) — is transforming the space sector into a key driver of progress across multiple domains.

A dedicated session by the Eurisy member  Institut d’Estudis Espacials de Catalunya (IEEC) presented the space ecosystem of the Catalonian region, highlighting its key strengths: talent, research and innovation, industry, infrastructure, government and administration, as well as institutional and international cooperation. In terms of talent development, the region boasts six public and private universities offering degree and master’s programmes in aerospace engineering, geographic information systems (GIS), and mathematics, along with well-established business schools contributing to the sector. In addition, the presentation highlighted the strong research centres centred to space, which also organise various challenges, open innovation services and develop surveys.

As a SPACE4GEO Alliance member and the SpaceSUITE project partner, Eurisy also took part in a workshop organised by the Space Skills Alliance, titled “Closing the Skills Gap: The Future Workforce of the Space Economy.” The workshop aimed to identify the most pressing skills challenges in the space sector. It showcased the ongoing efforts of the ASTRAIOS project, which maps skill-related issues such as skills shortages, visa restrictions, and the lack of visibility of career opportunities in the space domain.

Participants also contributed recommendations to inform upcoming initiatives by regional stakeholders. During the session, Eurisy helped raise awareness of SpaceSUITE’s role in generating skills intelligence for the space downstream sector, reinforcing its commitment to capacity-building and talent development.

The Congress offered Eurisy a valuable opportunity to network with key stakeholders working to bridge the skills gap and to strengthen its engagement in the space education landscape. It also served to deepen collaboration with longstanding partners, including the IEEC, thereby further expanding Eurisy’s network and impact.
