Eurisy Welcomes Eric Morel de Westgaver as New President
Eurisy is pleased to welcome Eric Morel de Westgaver as its new President, marking an exciting new chapter for the association and its mission to promote the societal benefits of space.
Eric Morel de Westgaver joins Eurisy with an outstanding career in the European space sector, bringing nearly four decades of leadership and expertise gained at the European Space Agency (ESA). Since beginning his ESA career in 1987 as an Industrial Policy Officer, he has held a wide range of senior management positions spanning industrial policy, procurement, legal affairs, international relations, and strategic planning. Throughout his career at ESA, he has helped shape some of the Agency’s most important industrial, legal, and strategic frameworks. His extensive experience has contributed to strengthening ESA’s role within the European space ecosystem and fostering cooperation among institutional and industrial stakeholders across Europe and beyond.
After serving as Director of Industry, Procurement and Legal Services, Eric was appointed Director of European, Legal and International Matters in 2021. In April 2024, he took on the role of Director of Strategy, Legal and External Matters, where he has played a key role in supporting ESA’s strategic development and expanding its international partnerships and engagement.
Space Debate Europe in Madrid last September marked Eric’s first public engagement in his capacity as Eurisy President. During the event, he officially unveiled the Eurisy 2040 Strategy, setting out a vision for the association’s future and reaffirming its mission to strengthen the connection between space and society by “Making Space Matter.”
As Eurisy continues to connect space solutions with societal needs and strengthen collaboration between the space sector and end-user communities, his leadership, vision, and deep understanding of the European space landscape will be invaluable assets.
